Google has announced a new offering for their public cloud service, Cross-Cloud Interconnect. The service provisions a dedicated physical connection from your Google Cloud environment to other public clouds, with Azure, AWS, Oracle Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud to start.

As the third runner up in the public cloud pageant, Google Cloud appears to be vying for the Miss Congeniality award by making nice with the other vendors. While there are plenty of third-party solutions from Equinix, Digital Realty, and others that will happily cross-connect your public clouds for you, this is the first time I’ve seen a public cloud vendor get into the space itself.

Only time will tell if Google Cloud can truly live up to the likes of Miss Rhode Island.
