Ok ok ok… so this one isn’t actually technology related, unless you consider the highly complex task of “getting out of your car, pushing a button, and then pulling a handle to fill a gas tank” technological.
But for certain hosts of this show who grew up in New Jersey and are still annoyed that this is a thing, it’s a big deal. Ever since 1951 Oregon has not permitted regular people to pump their own gas, except in very narrow circumstances. Up until recently they have only been peers with the Garden State in this respect.
The law was weird but vendors could actually be fined $500 for every customer who had the audacity to be self-reliant. BUT. This past week the Oregon legislature has made it legal to handle this daunting task yourself, state-wide, and with no restrictions.
