Microsoft Loves Linux! And this time they’re proving it by releasing a “very opinionated” open-source version. This opinionated distro has a lot baked into it specifically to benefit workloads running on Azure, and even more specificallier, workloads running containers on Kubernetes.

As such, the deployment is sufficiently tiny- just 400mb as a base install- but can be customized for whatever your workload requires. The project has been around for at least 2 years, and in public preview since last October. But now it’s official- you can run a Linux that’s designed exactly for its Azure environment, just like you always wanted.
