Y’all have heard of Apple’s Airtags right? They’re the little, 30 dollar cube thingies that you are supposed to connect to your possessions. Don’t worry if you prefer inferior products, Google’s gonna make one too. (Ed- Hey!)

If you can’t find said possession, you can get its location from the Find My app. t least, that’s the good version. The BAD version is when people use airtags for stalking. Which we don’t like. And neither do Google or Apple. So much, in fact, that they’re announcing an industry standard to alert people if they are being tracked by a device.

The goal here is to recognize if an unfamiliar device is in your bag, or your car, or your.. I don’t know, Vespa? Anyway I think we have to salute these manufacturers for recognizing the potential negatives of their products and making changes to protect consumers. They probably should have realized this danger when designing the original product, but at least they got there eventually.

I’m also glad for the editors of the site that hosted the article for changing the title. The original title was “Apple and Google unite on stalking” which, I don’t think exactly makes the same hopeful statement on this complicated issue.
