So. You’ve heard of Apple, right? They make real expensive stuff that’s real good and lasts a real long time? One of the reasons they have this reputation is that it’s true. Wait, that’s a tautology.
What I meant to say is: one of the reasons they have this reputation is because their R&D standards are preposterously high, and almost always met. Except this time. Reports have surfaced that show that the recently released iPhone Pro 14 was supposed to have an even more powerful processor.
The testing was done entirely in simulation and appeared promising. But when it was prototyped, it failed in unexpected ways that overheated the device. This is generally considered bad for battery life, and also not great for what we in the business call “not exploding.”
Apple caught this late, but they did catch it. End result was that the iPhone 14 Pro still has a top of the line chip, but just- not as “tippy-top of the liniest” as they were hoping it would have.
